I am running the 84/85 MAF without a problem. When I change MAFs I will go with a translator, I already have the 3" MAF to go with it. If you want to change now, I would recommend to go ahead and change to a translator and an LT1 or LS1 MAF.

With my 84-85 maf on a 86-87 ecm It would not boost at all and start popping 4000RPM .

Im using an 84-85 MAF now with a 86-87 computer.....its running fine. I had an 86-87 MAF that someone on the boards sold me...but the bastage sold me a bad MAF, so I had to switch back to the 84-85.

The 84-85 MAF is calibrated differently and the car will run rich at idle and part throttle with the later ECM. My 84 MAF pegged at 8psi while it took 13psi to peg the 87 MAF.

:( I believe I jinxed myself with my previous post. I had the car at the track and it ran ok. The problem I had was the boost came up relatively slow and only went to about 15#. Then throught the rest of the run it would bounce back and forth from 15# to 20#. Today I put the 85 ECM in and the problem went away, quick spooo and a rock solid 19#. I suppose I will be picking up a translator sooner than I thought. Oh well.
