87 gn not running fast

just bought a 87 gn the car is not running fast at all any ideas as to what could be wrong with the car maybe heads, turbo... any ideas please share thanks

does it have a scanmaster in it ? try posting some readings at idle hot

you should buy a scanmaster as your first mod to monitor what the engine is doing. try posting your location and see if you can find a local boardmember who may be able to take a look at it and help you out.

Slow car

If the car is otherwise stock, you might have an aftermarket chip in the ECM. Dump a bottle of 104+ Octane Booster in with your tank of gas and try it then. If the car starts to accelerate, but seems to bog and hold back, this is most likely your issue. Basically, the chip will be allowing more boost than pump gas will handle before knock begins. The knock sensor tells the computer to retard the timing, and performance suffers. Better than killing the engine.

If not, there may be other problems. Find someone that can make you a copy of the stock EPROM if the above turns out to be true & you don't want to use booster all the time. The PROM images are available on the site.

What do you call fast? Alot of people seem to think these cars are faster than they really are when they're all stock...
