ok I am currently trying to set up my air fuel meter with no avail

it came with directions but since I cant really call customer service I thought I would ask

it has 4 wires on the back of it

black
red
white
violet

on my setup

black is to ground

red is to ignition

white is to headlight switch

violet is on D7 of the ecm which what I got from another source says thats the o2 signal wire

on a different note my knock sensor is working and my knock is in the red right before last one on the gauge?

what do I do? I obviously dont want anymore knock

thanks

Carl

You really should have a scan tool. The gauges are a nice way to get a quick idea of what's going on, but if you have that much knock (assuming the gauge is right) you need to hook up a scan tool and look at the bigger picture.

But, on your question, the instructions that came with mine said to tap into the O2 sensor wire as close to the sensor as possible. I ran the wire the whole way out to the sensor itself. The instructions also said the ground has to be GOOD - like on the block, not the chassis. Did that, too.

Jim

Doesn't matter how good the wiring is, those meters are crap for what you want. The proper isn't the meter per se', but rather the shceap switcher type of O2 sensor that is ONLY accurate at stoiciometric.

As previoulsy mentioned....get a scan tool.

If you know where all the wires go, what's the problem. I added a short peice of wire between the ECM harness and the sensor to tap into.

I have an AFR gauge. It's good for seeing if the ECM is going to power enrichment properly, and the general conditon of the O2 sensor. I like the "real time" aspect of it and a true knock gauge like Casper's. With the slow update rate of most scan tools, it's hard to tell exactly when something happened. These two gauges helped me determine my knock is mostly false (part throttle and shifts). They compliment a scan tool, IMO, but certainly aren't a substitute.

I wouldn't pay much for an AFR gauge (I got mine cheap off ebay)A cheap digital volt meter from Radio Shack would make a good AFR gauge. An even better choice would be a EGT meter.
