I was wondering what exactly is alky? What does it do and can it be used on naturally aspirated motors?

alky is a knock suppressant..a car that runs 16 pounds of boost would be able to run more like 26 after alky...what it does is sprays methanol (or other mixes) into the up-pipe before the plenum(dog house).....seems to be about the best bang for the buck out there...Ive also wondered if it benefits NA motors....I'm giessing a little, but not nearly as much...I'm subscribed

Typically most NA motors are fine with the gas available. The exception is when someone builds the engine with way too high compression for the fuel available. Like a 12:1 compression engine. In those cases what is done is pull timing tremendously to stop it from pinging. And then use methanol as the fuel supplement under heavy load conditions to increase timing.

With a fuel injection setup it can be done. Curving the controller gets tricky so it has to be load based. An easy way would be using a MAF meter to run the alky kit.

Alky=methanol/ethanol/isopropyl/etc. Its alcohol. The one most of use is methanol since its the cheapest form.

ok thanks i always wondered what it was. So basically it only really benefits the motors that arent naturally asperated?

With the right control strategy, wouldn't alky injection benefit high compression NA engines the same as ours?

Sure its octane. But I dont know how much power you can increase from timing alone on an NA application. That would be the gain. And the cost vs benefit of said power. So if the motor picked up 20 HP and it cost you 800 for a system.. cost vs benefit.. see what I mean. Vs on a turbo car 15 PSI vs 30 PSI boost. You can see the benefit is overwhelming.

Given the right vehicle, 800 is chump change. But 800 is still 800 ;)

Alky is a tool that allows you to convert a Windows executable to a Mac OS X or Linux binary.Alky is focused on high-end gaming at the moment, though it will support other applications in the future. The binary translation layer is already working fully for OS X, Linux support is in progress.

Huh?....This joke must be over my head
