I bought an SMC kit but I haven't installed it yet because I'm waiting to upgrade the turbo. I was speaking with some one that said they don't like any alky kits because the alcohol has a tendency to ware away the oil that should line the piston. My question is has anyone had any mechanical failures because of an alky kit? If so what?

If someone is flowing enough alcohol to wash down the oil then the car would be bogging so bad it would hardly run. On a proerly tuned system just enough alcohol enters the combustion chamber to drop the chamber temp between 1-200º, enough to prevent pre-ignition (knock). Once the alcohol hits the 1500º chamber is immediately vaporizes and is ejected out the exhaust valve.
Gasoline can also wash down the cylinders but that seems to be a pretty popular combustion agent once properly tuned;)

1 last question

Why do you ad oil or a lubricant to the alky mixture is it to grease the pump so it works smooth, and how much do you ad to the mixture to a 1/2 gallon bottle?

I use wd40 to lube the alky pump. I put a 5 second squirt into 1/2 gallon of denatured alky. Put the kit on. It only takes an hour or two, and you wont believe the difference.

Yes, the difference is amazing...you will be able to run alot more boost...I use Mystery Oil for lube in the alcohol. Anyone else use Mystery Oil?

I now use the Klotz Uplon lube that Steve C. sells for his SMC kits.

It actually mixes with the alky. instead of floating or getting scummy on it.

I like it so far. :)

I use water/alky. too usually 60/40 or so alky./water.

I use MM oil too but like salvage said, it just floats around after I pour it in. I assume that it will mix somewhat after driving around and such but a lube that mixes would definitely make me feel better.
