Have 86 T/Type. R&R alt wasn't getting any volts to the battery? found no power from the wire going to the exciter got power from another lead. worked for couple hundred miles then went out again. T/Type at dealership in Enid Ok. tech is stumped so am I.

alt won't charge

I dont know if the volt lite is on? Have to call the dealership in Enid I'am home in Las Vegas. The exciter is what I call the wire that plugs into the alt that startes the magnetic field for the alt to start the charging the battery w/14 volts+. From what you say that wire is in series with the lite on the dash board? My son is in Wahaiwa? Small world.

That's correct. If the volts light in the dash doesn't come on, the alt. will not charge. It's usually a bad connection from the light to the dash. HTH,

Paul

Do you have a mulit meter? You will have to check voltage across the battery terminals.

stumble/back-fire at 75 mph

Thanks for all the help. Dealership in Enid Ok. finally got the T/Type fixed. They had no Alt. so they rebuilt it to the 96 Caprice 140 amp. spec's at my request. Tech(maybe) said that on the road test it had stumble/back-fire at 75mph. That was the other thing they were to check-out. Any suggestions for the Tech(?) since I'am the one that has been calling from home in Las Vegas to Ok. with all the info so that my T gets fixed and back on the street (of course my daugther is going to get the raines and wheel it around) until she & hubby get back here before they head over sea's, he is KC135 A/C commander.
