i went to install the can sensor today and noticed the cap is cracked where the screws go thru it. will this cause it to malfunction? can i repair it or do i have to replace it?

I bet if it was running with the crack before you took it off, you COULD run it again... I would only run it long enough to drive to the parts store and get a new one (A cap, that is!)

You can get the cap/sensor only. It's a lot cheaper than the whole assembly.

If the car still runs with it, I would leave it alone...There isn't any electricity in the cam sensor cap like there is on a regular distributor, so there won't be any arcing...The cam sensor is just a hall effect switch...The little window on the cam sensor metal cup just disrupts the field created by the pickup on the cam sensor cap...Personally, I don't think the crack would hurt anything...
