About the polar ice caps melting and the worlds weather goes crazy and lots of people die? Wasn't it supposed to be ficticious?

What is the deal with the weather lately? We haven't had hardly any hot weather all summer, Florida is going to get broke off and float away with these hurricanes, and aside from the lack of heat its been downright cold at night! What the hell is up? Its not just some fluke, it used to be hot as hell for about 6 weeks here, I think we've had less than 4 days where we hit 90 or higher. Did I move to southern california? This weather really sucks when you run a heating and air conditioning company........

Sam - other than your business - I wouldn't trade the weather we've been having for nothing.

Word I have read is that the Ocean temp is up 1 -2 degrees right now. That's the supposed cause.

Oh yeah, its been great for hanging out and racing. Its just the repercusions I'm worried about. 2 of the largest heating and A/C companies in town went under in the last month, and many are struggling. We rely on summer heat to make money, winter is slow for us, and thats normal. So you save up over the busy summer and it helps over the slow winter months. All I can say is I'm glad I took over this business when I did, or we would be broke too! Oh well, I guess me and my 1 employee and car buddy Dave will just start painting my Mustang, might as well use the time for something!

Yeah, the surf hasn't been all that great this summer, and it rained last night.... :D

yeah good movie, i'm watching it right now at home, do you think that could really happen?

It got a lot of poo-poo ing from the professional meteorologists and geo-climactic scientists. And there is a lot of crap in it, like the magic freeze wave chasing people, but stopping at the wooden door because there's a fire inside.

I think the reality is that while we wouldn't expect any huge instant freezes, there could be some radical alterations in temperatures and precipitation in relatively short times. Some aberrant winter and summer temperatures. Changing ocean currents have large effects on our climate. Droughts are well known to appear out of nowhere and last for many years - that could be economically devastating. Recorded history is kind of a joke on the scale of the life of the planet. It's pretty vain of us to think of our time here as significant in any way. We recognize cycles in periods of months, years, perhaps even a century. But there may well be cycles drive by forces on the planet and in the solar system that are outside what we're currently aware of.

I just read an article recently that talked of precipitation averages, and how the California water needs and delivery projection was based on a rainfall average that is now being found to have been unusually high when you consider a period longer than a few dozen years.

I'm not buying the idea that we're having as much an effect on the weather with our pollution and water control efforts as some people believe. I think the planet has its own ideas which could easily eclipse anything we can do, and may already be doing so. We do have an effect, but we're not the only force at work here.
