"yes an LS1 W/LS6 heads only can run 10.80's on bottle. the LS series motors are of far superior design than older motors gm has produced.if you pay enough attention and look at enough websites you will see ls motors are setting numerous world records instead of the old design ttypes.Hence:LSx motors=better flow, more power stock, while doing it all with lower compression ratios.by the way, this past tuesday a friend of mine with an LS1 ran a 9.73@139 with a 200 shot. if that isn't enough another friend went 9.96@136 n/a, no bottle, no fi, just all motor. oh yeah, i almost forgot, they both drove them to the track and then back home"

The Iron Block has made about 1900HP in the Wheel to Wheel Race Car at 357 CI. This is about 5.3 hp per ci. Dave Bamford with his DLS Motor makes the more hp with a 109 motor that I know of at about 1023hp if you do the math. His motor is in the 249ci range so that is about 4.1 HP per cubic inch.

The LS Motors are cross bolted from the factory and have much better symetrical port 14* heads.

You can draw your on conclusion..... :D

The LS series motors are amazing. I would have to say they probably will be setting the way in the next few years. They've already made it into the 6s with an LS based motor and there are several cars in the 7s and are either on the verge of going 6s or have enough in them still to go 6s. It's truly an amazing motor. The gas mileage and driveability you can get from a car on your way to the track to run low 10s or even 9s now is almost the same as if it were stock. Going 9s and still getting 20+ mpg easily on the highway is pretty amazing to me.

Sure they are superior, as they should be. They take advantage of the newest technology and design, whereas the buick motor is what, 20+ years old? Its just natural progression. I hope in 20 more years we have a small block that flows so well it makes the LS1 look sad!

I gotta say, I'm happy I got into the LS1 stuff. Its so much more durable and has a booming aftermarket thats only getting stronger. Now that there are aftermarket blocks coming out, the sky is the limit.

I'm actually trying to gather info to do a fox body LS1 swap, it will be a light and reliable 9 second ride. In fact, the only thing keeping my Z28 out of the 9 second range is weight. Alot of guys gut their f bodies, and run amazing times, but I want mine more comfortable. The guys I've spoken to with gutted cars regret doing it and don't feel its worth it for the ET gain. The mustang, however, will be gutted and very light. And really, I don't think its gonna cost that much to build.

The LSX motors are better like Sam Stated. FWIW, the 3.8 is based on a 40 year old design not a 20 year old design. The externals are 20 year old technology.

Buick V6's are originally based off of the 215cid Aluminum V8 found in 61-63 Buicks Special/Skylark, Oldmobile F-85/Cutlass, and very few Pontiac Tempests and every Land Rover V8 untill 2004. The engine was first the 189cid in iron, then with the redesigned 300, the 225 Dauntless later sold to Jeep and the repurchased and redsigned around the Buick 350 as the 231 oddfire which morphed into the 231 even fire in 77. That design lasted until I believe 92 when the 3800 Series I came out with the same bore and stroke, but a reduced deck height, oncenter block, improved cylinder heads. In late 96 the Series II 3800 came out with many of the features found on the LS series engines... cross bolted mains, beehive springs, composite intake, rolled valve angles, powdered metal rods, a gerotor oilpump, integrated sensors... If you really want to look at it, the LS series motors are built off of the technology proven in the 3800 Series II. Which by the way, is only held back by the weak ass transmissions FWD cars have, there have been some decently fast 3800 Series II F-bodies, just people don't mess with the V6 much and just go for a V8.

Just some info and for the record, I still like the LT-1 better than the LS series motors,

Yeah, I always thought the 3800 series motor was impressive, 200+ horsepower in stock trim in the F bodies. I know a couple guys have turbo'd V6 F bodies and had good results. Its just that with the money spent, you're better off with the LS1.

Turbo LS motors are where its at!!! Those guys make some serious power!

I looked into going turbo on mine, but it was alot cheaper to just sell it and buy a turbo car done. I'm liking the nitrous setup thus far, mainly because I've spent less than $1000 on it.
