I just got the ATR BOV and I was wondering if your supposed to connect the vaccuum hose to the top metal thing or the one coming off of the bottom? any one know? thanks

I didn't know ATR made BOV's. I thought all they made was Wastegates. Are you sure you don't have a wastegate?

Howdy,

I have a BOV I purchased about 10 years ago from ATR. It is an HKS BOV. Anyway, the port farthest away from the exhaust opening (on the BOV) goes to a vacuum source behind the throttle body. The Vacuum port closest to the exhaust port (or farthest from the mounting flange) goes into the intercooler tubing. During boost with the throttle wide open both lines are essentially at the same pressure so the spring pressure in the BOV keeps it closed. Once the throttle slams closed, the intake instantly goes to vacuum but the intercooler tube still has 20 or so PSI. The diaphragm in the BOV is pulled open with vacuum on one side and pressure on the other, and then you hear whoosh as all the high pressure is vented. I really had to tighten up the set spring on mine so it would not open at low boost/ partial throttle. Even though you have a couple PSI in the intake there is a ton in the intercooler but the throttle blade is open such a small amount it can not get by.

Hope that helps.

Yes, I am sure it is not a wastegate, but thanks. Flighttest, I was thinking about using the vacuum line from the factory boost controller because I use the RJC boost controoler, should I go further back? Also what intercooler tubing are you talking about? thanks for the help.

I can't remember where the boot controller vacuum line comes from, I will have to look, I thought it came from the compressor housing on the turbo. I do not know if you have a front mount or not, but I drilled and tapped a pipe coming out of the intercooler and put in a 1/8 inch pipe fitting with a nipple on the other end. I tied in my vacuum (behind the throttle body) to the EGR line since my EGR has been removed. You can tie it into the MAP sensor line or EGR whatever, I just do not like "teeing" into the fuel pressure regulator line. You may be able to use the boost controller line form the turbo/intercooler side of the BOV, if it is plumbed into the turbo compressor housing.

You do not have to use the bottom port on the BOV. However, if you do tie this into the intercooler piping it will respond faster.

Thanks guys, once I get my car running propperly Ill let you know if it works. thanks again.
