I've had my Autometer 6856 5" tach on my car now for about 3 years and it's performed flawless. Last week it started to get a little jumpy here and there and now the thing just quit all together. All the connections are good and nothing has changed. Is it possible that the tach has just died all together? It has power illumiation and makes the sweep when the ignition is turned on just won't read rpm anymore. The green wire was spliced into the white wire on the coil pack and, i moved it to the green connector just for grins but it doesn't work there either.
I'm replacing the green connector with a oem splice from casper's and a tach connector mate splice also from caspers just in case the connector has gone bad after 22 years.
has anybody ever seen a tach just stop working for no other reason? the car runs fine other than the 300.00 paperweight i now have. just wanted someone's opinion on the tach and maybe another way to hook it up.
here's the tach:
