I have been working on getting everything back to working order and the only things left are the back up lights and the wipers. The wipers should be some what easy, I hope. The back up lights are a different story. Where do I start? The shifter and everything works fine but the lights don't come on. So any direction you guys can point me in would be great.

Are you talking about the linkage at the engine bay side of the firewall on the steering column? What should I look for on it?

That is the one, although, that rod also controls the ignition key P/N lockout. So if that works the rod is OK.

Obviously check the bulbs that they are good.

The other item to check is the switch for the back-up lights. The grease hardens over time and prevent contact. The switch is easy to clean and is located on the top of the column, under the dash, near the firewall. It clips into place and is also adjustable.

The biggest pain about it is getting it back into place.

This switch is easy to get out and work on just a pain to put back in? I won't get a chance to work on it until Monday but hopefully that will fix it.

There is a slip clamp on that rod to adjust for that. It could be out of adjustment and the lock still work fine. You have to be under it to get to it

Where at on the rod is the slip clamp? Is there a procedure to adjusting it or do you just put it in reverse and adjust it until the light comes on?

Do a search there are plenty of pics Of the linkage and you will see it. That's also they way I adjusted mine it is touchy though

Not sure why but I've always had trouble getting the switch to clip back into place. There is a tab on the bottom that goes into a groove on the piece in the column that rotates. Must be some secret to doing it but so far that has alluded me.

Once removed can open the switch by carefully prying back on the retaining tabs. Do this slowly and over a bench as there are some leaves and springs in there.
