turbo heat shield, CLICK HERE
I placed my stock heat shield on top of the new one...you'll notice the new one is MUCH larger...
The original is .031" thick steel, mine is .031" black anodized aluminum, and weighs less than the stock steel piece, so the extra size shouldn't cause a problem. The new one is sized to fill the entire recessed area in the hood insulator. I'm not sure of the heat-transfer differences between aluminum and steel, so I'm not sure if the aluminum will be more or less effective in shielding the heat...however, there'll be a whole lot of aluminum where none used to be, so I can't imagine this being worse...
The original shield is held on with 2 sheet metal screws, I've circled them in the picture. I plan on adding a third hole between the original holes in the new shield, you'll just need to drill a small hole for a 3rd screw if you want to use it...
The only hassle I'm having with this, is the insulator--it's cut to fit the width of the original where it mounts. There's 2 ways to fix this problem:
1- YOU cut your insulator to fit the new plate, or
2- I'LL cut the "wings" off the mounting area of the plate to the size of the original. I'm not sure if this will weaken the plate, but it's so lightweight as it is, I don't really think it will be a problem...
Also, I can engrave these, however, might be overkill since the insulator is all printed up anyway!
Feedback is welcome and appreciated, I'll figure on making some up if there's a market for 'em! If so, they'll be available thru Mark Hueffman at www.buickgn.com in the near future! Tentative pricing looks to be in the $35 to $55 range...
(I encourage everyone to go thru Mark, his being my dealer makes my life MUCH easier, and I owe him any bones I can throw his way, especially since he purchased an ad banner on TB.com!
