Body Mounts

So with the car almost being done, just waiting for injectors to come back. I will be taking the car to a body shop to fix some dents, also want them to install new body mounts. Will tell them to do one side at a time and use a lil anti seize on the bushing to washer connections.

I looked around, though I'd prefer to buy from Kirbans, Mike Montes has the same rubber kit with bolts for almost half the price. $150 from Mike's including hardware! Versus $250 from kirbans for the kit $40 for bolts. Does anyone have any experience with Mike's? Mike's also has a prothane kit for $150 and $27 for the bolts. I can't really decide between the rubber or prothane, but I think either will do a great job. I'm leaning towards the rubber kit, as I have a few bushings actually missing from factory and few that are totally disintegrated. So I'm sure I would be happy with all bushings including GNX #5 being added. I do not want polys.

Is your car a original California or southern state car? I was fully scared to do it on my car with the nightmare you see with northern cars. Mine has been a southern California car all it's life and It ended up taking me about 2 hours all in. No issues removing body bolts, no rotted mount location. I used the Kirbans ones including the GNX bushings and the header panel ones too with new bolts.

Old body bushings; can you tell which one was near the down pipe?

Yes I live in OC, car was bought in Long Beach brand new by my father. Its lived its life here in SoCal. I have never done anything body related so I am just as fully scared as you were. Figure when I take it to a body shop for dent repairs just have them do it. Recently when I went under the rear, took out the tank for inspection and cleaning, I noticed both DS and PS #7's where destroyed with barely anything left, less material on them then your downpipe bushing. If your local and have time to burn one of these weekend I'd gladly love a PM and talk details.

Just ordered from Mike, gave him a call and he has the rubber bushing kit in stock.

Struck out today, called over 12 different body shops and NONE of them do body bushings. I guess its more of a specialty item then I originally thought. Still in search of help or a shop, I'd gladly pay for someone's time, don't want to watch them do the work either just need the guidance and knowledge to complete the job correctly.

Also went to talk with the detailer, IAMDETAILING, and wooow can't say enough about this guy, Jakub. His shop was spotless, and he gave me 30minutes of his time discussing options for my car. Once I walked through the doors there was a trans am sitting there being worked on. I loved how it was black and looking like a mirror. Half way through our talk, he mentioned that this trans am was a specialty. I asked why and he showed me the details of the car and its work, turns out its literally Burt Renald's car!! https://www.youtube.com/c/IAMDetailing He does everything from 30,000 dollar cars to 10 million dollar cars. From what I saw I can't wait to take my car to Jakub.

But first things first have to get these body bushings done, and a few dent repairs before I can go get dry ice blasting and paint correction. He will not be hard pressed to find cars to work on for years if not decades to come. I will keep the board posted!

It's really not a bad job to do in your garage. Enlist the help of a buddy if you have most common tools. I did mine by removing the bumpers and jacking up body in rocker area one side at a time. I did have to repair some of the body mount areas. So I busted out the welder and fabricated some pieces.

I saw the work that Jakub does and want to take my Buick there, if you do the dry ice blasting you definitely need to show us the before and after. I'm so glad he's local too.

Will do. I when I talked to him, we discussed a 4 hour ice blast and a stage 2 paint correction. He is definitely excited as he hasn't done a GN yet. When I do go, he will do a video and it will be on his site for sure. Not only was Burt's trans am in the shop but a beautiful 911 porche, and an original blue old school land cruiser. His shop was spotless, white floor and walls, and many tripod light set ups around the car's he was working on.

If I had the money, I would do a full 12-16 hour dry ice blast and a full multi stage paint correction. From what I've seen on his site and in person, its worth every penny!

Just looked at his youtube channel and you can see the porche and the land cruiser I saw. Surprised the trans am isn't in the shot.

I followed this and had mine done in a couple hours while taking beer breaks. Used energy suspension polyurethane kit.......had a thread with pics, but no more after the site took a dump

Many of my bushings are missing from factory or completely disintegrated.

My question is for bushings #2, 3, 4, 6, 7, does the big bushing go on top and the small on the bottom or vise versa small on top and big on bottom?
