My question today is. If I get an adjustable wastegate would I still need a boost controller, and vise versa. If so, which one is better to have. The adj wastegate or the boost controller?
I put an adjustable waste gate actuator on my 85GN. I did not change anything else and it worked fine. I did manage to blow up my motor with the adj. waste gate actuator. I adjusted the actuator the wrong way and the stupid stock band light boost gauges are worthless. Properly install a real VDO type boost gauge before you even think about putting in an adj. waste gate actuator. Brad
Since you have an adjustable WG. How is it working out for you. Have you used a boost gauge before. If you have, which of the two did you like best. Can you answer the question about having both boost cont. & adjustable WG. Is it necassary two have both or can I just pick one and not need the other. Please let me know. Like I said in my previous post I do not want to spend the extra $$ if I dont have to. I am on a budget right now and can only spend so much on my car. Stupid bills . Im sure you know where im coming from.
He did answer your question, you can use one without the other. You can use an adjustable wastegate to control boost, or a boost controller with a stock acutator. You just gotta be careful when adjusting them, cause you can blow your engine up if you put out too much boost.
GNASUKA, I see your location is Santa Clarita,CA. Would you happen to know any reputable shops in the bay area. To be more exact on my location it is San Jose. Or know how I would be able to find one. So far my searches have lead me to the conclusion that there aint any. If you could help me out that would be great.
As far as shops go around here in California, I havnt been able to find any.....except for one of the board sponsers in Sacramento that does transmission work: http://www.ptsxtreme.com/
I usually just do everything myself, so I havnt ever really looked too hard for shops though. It seems most of the support for these cars is back east.
