Ok, just installed new parts......no change. The car will start and backfire every stroke. I have checked everything. I think its almost time to admit defeat. I think it almost has to be something in the motor. I dont have the knowledge or money to keep doing this. Does anybody know how much it would cost to rebuild the motor? Anywhere near Chicago/Rockford area? I have never been so disgusted....this car has not ran right since I bought it.
I'm not looking for a 11 sec. hotrod, I just want to be able to drive it!!!
Any info would be appriciated.....sorry to bitch so much. I will just have to let it sit untill I decide what I can do. Everybody on this site has been a huge help..... Dave

Did you verify your FP?
Do you have a scan tool?

Yes I did verify FP. I also have a turbo-link. Not showing any codes. Sounds like it is backfiring right out of the turbo. The impellers spin free. I am assuming this is some sort of mech. problem in the motor????? Pulled the plugs looks like the whole left side isn't firing(2,4,6)???? Dont know what else to do. Thanks, Dave

Ok...Back up and post again exactly what you have done...

My understanding is that you put an 87 coilpack/module on your hotair car???

Did you use the adapter harness or did you replace the main wiring harness pigtail with the replacement from Casper's and rewired it to be able to use the 87 coilpack/module without the adapter harness???

Or maybe you've done something else in another posting that I don't know about...

Ok, went back and read the "firing order..." thread...see that you have the adapter harness there...

What have you changed on the car recently and when did it not want to start???

Sorry for the confusion. After I changed the spark plug wires around, I thought they were wrong. Started car with a huge boom. I then put the plug wires on again...the right way, wouldn't start. I then purchased a new 87 mod. + coilpack, installed them last night, car starts but sounds like it is backfiring out the turbo. I pulled the plugs on the left side 2,4,6 and they are wet, doesnt look like any of them are firing????? The car ran before I did any of this..... just not well. Now I cant even run it. I hope I didnt do any internal damage to the motor. I dont know what to do now. Any advice would help. P.S. I know the wires are hooked up right now!!!!! Dave

Dave, were you able to determine the origin of your prom chip? Hopefully somebody didn't put a weird chip in there. I would also recheck the cam sensor with the tool that you have, make sure you do it at top dead center on the compression stroke as well on cyl 1. If they are 180 out it will run like crap, but probably still start. The car backfires, so it sounds like you have spark, just maybe out of sequence. You have fuel because you said some of the plugs were wet, which leads me to believe even more that something is out of synch. By the way, how old is the gas in the car? I also wouldn't rule out the ecm at this point. Sometimes it doesn't hurt to search/post in the general turbo tech section as well to get more ideas, as it is more likely you will find a thread of someone who had a similar problem to yours. Just keep at it, if you get frustrated just take a break. Good luck and keep us posted

Mike

Ok...The backfire or boom that you heard the first time may have damaged some seals or blown off some vacuum lines that you may not be aware of...First thing you need to do is check the o-rings on your turbo to intake adapter...Then check all your vacuum hoses for splits and make sure they are all still securely connected...Check your throttle body to turbo gasket to see if it's blown out or damaged...

We'll work this through...Just don't get too frustrated...

i tried to do the ign mod upgrade 3 times my car won't start with the 87 stuff on it but i put the 85 stuff back on on and it starts right up just runs like crap too. and i did use the caspers harness and tried three differant new ign mods

hey just thought that I would ask did you use the adapter for the 87 coilpack
also the firing order is diff on the type2 coilpack not sure of what but they probably have something to do with your no start prob
