The temp sending unit on the passenger side, front of intake. Had a one wire hookup to the VDO guage in the dash. The temp sending unit on the driver side has an electrical socket that sends the signal to the ECM. There is a black wire and a yellow wire. Can I splice the gauge wire in the yellow wire? I don't want to replace the sending unit that I broke because it is screwed in so far I would be afraid of stripping the threads, if I could even grab it to unscrew it. Thanks.

Im not too sure about the Parameters on a Water Temp gauge but if you hook it up to the Driverside sender it might not be compatible with the VDO gauge and you will get a different reading. I personally would be busting out the tools and taking some parts off to get to that Sensor. Once you get a closed wrench around it or a deep socket it should come out with no problem. Just open the Radiator drain for a little bit so the Antifreeze level drops.

No. For one the gauge won't work and 2..it will most likely change the temperature reading to the ECM and give a false reading. Just change the sending unit for the gauge.

It looks like my sending unit should be able to come out. Oreilly's website shows two different styles. The first one listed on their website looks factory and that is the one I would like to buy. The wire pushes on with a female spade terminal. However the thread size/pitch is different from the others, and the one in there now looks like the others. The wire attaches with a U shaped terminal. Can anyone tell me if the first one listed would be the correct one? Or does my VDO gauge require a non factory sender?
