Quick question. I was messing with the thermostat and I noticed a broken sensor right under the throttle body on the intake. Any one have any ideas? Doesnt affect drivability. Thanks in advance..

if its on the driverside of the intake its just the fan overheat switch , not too important because it is just a temp switch that does nothing till 220* and then grounds the hi speed fan relay which will turn the fan on high speed.
as long as the wire to it isnt grounded out so as to keep the fan running high speed there should be no problem

its a safegaurd that doesnt hurt to keep operational , overheating a motor can do damage .

heres the rundown
most of your fan operation is low speed . The high speed mode only comes on with the A/C running or if that sensor commands it . The low speed relay gets a lot of use on the contacts and is subject to failures more than the high speed relay .
scenario ... the low speed fan relay goes bad now your fan doesnt run and temps start rising fast . Unless you have a water temp gauge in the car and happen to be looking at it you wont know theres a problem until the idiot light comes on just before it overheats and blows (that is if you still have the idiot switch still connected on the passenger side of the intake )
if the high speed fan switch is connected and operational (the sensor you have thats broken) , then if the low speed relay dies and the temps go up the high speed fan will kick on before you boil over and bring the temps down , you can continue to drive but your temps will be high and your water temp gauge will be the only indicator that you need to look into the coolant fan system.

a water temp gauge is a good idea , scanmaster has coolant temp but its not in the primay display so odds are you wont be monitoring water temp with one .

high speed fan

Hi,
I would replace the switch. It ain't there unless it has a function, trust me. Key on,ground the connector wire. That should turn on the high speed fan winding. If not, high speed relay is probably bad, which is a common occurance. Water gets into it, adios relay. It's on the left fender, large relay.Good luck!

that large relay on passenger side closest to the firewall is the fan delay relay , they do go bad but the ruesult is a fan that turns on even if the key is out and leads to many dead batteries , you dont even need that relay and could take it off and toss it in the trunk

the two smaller relays are for the fan hi and fan low

with key on if you ground the green /yellow stripe wire at the manifold to a good peice of clean metal the high speed fan should kick on , if not plan on getting a relay while your at it.
