My father in law's got one of these in his 2nd garage for heat..uses 30 gallon or 35 gallon drums. Was checking out some BBQ sites yesterday and came across another use for it. Thinking of actually building one. Anyone here ever build one or use something similar for BBQ? Also, where the hell do you find dif flavor woods??

Looks nice!!

You can get flavored wood at Gander MTN, cabellas, even home depot sells some. But not nearly as much as gander MTN or cabellas. I just bought some apple wood, supposed to be really hard and slow burning with a good flavor.

Yea, I wanna try the applewood, cannot find it at home depot. What is gander MTN or cabellas? Never heard of them. I'm thinking I'm gonna need a bit more than a bag of chips though for this....couplafew logs me thinks

Gander mountain and cabellas are outdoor hunting, fishing and cooking stores. Really nice stuff inthere. As far as the logs, i would find a tree and start cutting :)

If accessable of course.

But im sure some online ppl sell logs, do a search on bbq, tons of stuff there

I'm in NH, not too many BBQ resources up here! :)
Will have to look for places that sell firewood I suppose.

Hey Joe, I use hickory wood mostly in my bbq and smoking... Joe up there none of your friends have apple trees???? Apple wood is good for smoking bacon, ham and fish....That is a very nice looking smoker to build...... I am looking at a new smoker that runs on wood pellets with a auto auger...
Joe H.....

Hey Kevin, the last line of your post says "wood, supposed to be really hard and slow burning with a good flavor". Thats funny.

Then Joe said "smoking bacon"

I thought this kind of language wasn't allowed here?

Maybe my minds just not right.:D

Yea, I've been trying to find apple wood locally...nuttin. I've found it online though. I may go forward and order this kit.
My boss at work just bought this cooker..it's electric and looks like a fridge. It's a medium size fridge, w/an elec. auger that uses wood pellets. Pretty neat...big though and can be used indoors and vented outside which is pretty cool She got it online at a place called Fast Eddys BBQ.

Joe, my buddy and I have been toying with the ideal of finding a small wood stove and then build a box out of sheet metal to smoke our meat in..... I have been using a smoker BBQ now for about 3 years... We make our how rub for our meats and poultry.. Go to google and put either bbq or smoking and you can go on forever looking at sites...........
I get up early when I am smoking ribs, takes about 6 to 8 hours but the flavor is well worth it... Cooking on a grill is just cooking, but when you slow smoke it thats BBQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, it certainly takes time but the end result is well worth it. I think I'm going to go forward and build this out of 30 gallondrums.
