I just changes out the factory exhaust on my 84' T for a Hooker. I have noticed over the past few days that when I come to a stop after driving boosted and not boosted much the car will let out a ton of oil smoke for a bit then stop??? It's not smoking when I'm driving down the road or when I first start the car or all the time. It's like it "loads up" or something? It's heavy smoke blue/white oil smoke. The car holds oil fine and the oil looks fine. I think when I took the old system off and the cat it was masking the burn off and now the new catback is open and free flowing I now notice it. Could this be the turbo going up? Any ideas? I haven't had a chance to pull the intake tube off to inspect the turbo blades yet.

Kind of strange. When the turbo seals/bearings go, they smoke constant after they heat up. Sometimes smoke all the time.

If you are getting smoke after boost up, could mean that you may have a very slight seepage past the bearing or seal.

I would gamble and say its turbo related. What kind of turbo and whats the background on it?

Thats what I was kind of thinking, It's a stock 84 Turbo that was rebuilt about 10 years ago.

Abomb, Thanks for asking... I did solve the problem. It was the turbo. I picked up a nice slightly used one from Drew (Broke 1) and slapped it on and now she runs like a dream and no smoke!

Thats cool to hear you got it fixed, I am getting some white/blue smoke after decel, sometimes lite sometimes more heavy, not smoking any other time, was yours acting like that?

That is EXACTLY what mine was doing. It was the worst when I would stop at a light it would just dump smoke all over the place. When I would start the car after it sat or had just been running for a bit it was fine maybe just a little smoke but once it had been driven for a while and boosted it was the worst. I could also smell the burning oil heavy in the smoke it was a mess

Hell mine smoked so bad it was like I had fried piston rings. When me and my buddy pulled up and got gas I left it idle when I wen tinto and pay for it and and the clerk said my car was on fire:biggrin: . I told him I was taking care of the mosquito problem outside;) . Pull you your up pipe off, bet its just dripping with oil like mine was/is!

I pulled off up pipe and it is dry as a bone. Pulled off downpipe and it just looks like exhaust residue can't really see any wet/dripping oil or anything. Pulled a spark plug and it is white colored, whats that mean? Also went for a drive today and blocked off pcv valve so thats not it. Smoked pretty bad after a low boost run after slowing down for the light, and not quite as bad after just normal driving no boost.

Ok I pulled out the spark plugs from the passenger side and they have fresh wet oil on the base (inside the combustion chamber) and the threads were wet as well. The tips were pretty white though. Any thoughts?

Sounds like she is bad to me. You won't always have oil in the up pipe or down pipe if the turbo is bad. The turbo on my 87' started going bad a few years ago smoking etc... I checked everything and it was clean no oil mess. My 84' was the same way. Best thing to do is borrow someones elses turbo and swap it on. See if it is still smoking or it stops then you have your answer.
