Any one know about these satellite dish's or direct tv dish's people are selling on ebay? What can I bid on, buy, and install myself? (And not get the wrong one.) Also, what to stay away from?? Anyone? Thanks
Why would you buy a direct tv setup when they're free?
Got mine a couple of months ago from www.expertsatellite.com. Free installation, free base receivers (you can upgrade for Tivo, or higher quality sound), local broadcasts etc. For me, the channel list was better than dish network, and the pricing was better. I pay $2.50 more than I did for local cable with hardly any channels. I only go 2 receivers, but I think they'll give you up to 5. I pay $45/mo for the 2 receivers and they were offering a free DVD player too (the site, not direct tv).
What does DirectTV offer in the way of high-def broadcasting?
I just bought a high-def TV, and Comcast installed an HD tuner in that room. Picture quality is awesome!

I've got digital HDTV cable and had satelite, the dish is nice but I hate it when my TV reception is weather dependant. Never had a problem with my digital cable, but all sorts of gremlins with my old dish.

On a related note, I have Digital Cabal in three rooms (one with HBO), and a cable modem from the company, and I pay over $100 a month! The cable modem (and internet service) alone is like $50 a month. Do any places offer them for much less?
What I don't get is why cable around here is trying to sell digital cable as an upgrade and charge MORE money for it? Seems like they wanted another $30(?) or so for that, but Direct TV was only a couple of bucks with a lot more to offer. Fewer channels than the satellite too. It's like they disregard the satellite as competition all together as if they still had a monopoly.
The rain thing sucks, but for the savings over digital cable it's worth it. Takes a pretty serous rain to knock off my signal. It's more reliable than (our) cable. Basically our cable carrier here just plain sucks.
