Gray Davis is a despised, soulless, selfish politician, beholden to the public employee unions.
I am terrified of left-wing radicals running for Governor, like Assemblyman(or state Senator?) John Burton. For all of Davis's faults, at least he blocked most of Burton's insane proposals.
I fear Arnold is not a "true" republican, like Reagan was ... but anything's better than Burton.
Condoleeza Rice I greatly admire ... she is one tough & brilliant lady , and she has truer conservative credentials than does Arnold.
But Calif is full of left wing nuts, especially the No Calif bay area, so Don't know if Rice is electable in this screwed up state.
Two of the shrillest cranks in Calif are congresswomen Barbara Lee & Maxine Waters ... both are anti-american, anti-business, "blame america for everything", and were rooting for Saddam to win. And, they keep getting elected and have large followings. Fortunately, I think they are both more or less ignored in Congress.
Rice, Lee, and Waters are all african-american women, but what a difference. Rice is a role model and inspiration , the other two are whining "victims", and of course its the fault of america.

So what you're saying is that he's a typical liberal Democrat.
His friend Jesse Ventura's tenure in Minnesota may have hurt the novelty/concept of "a big strong celebrity non-politician" like Arnie right now...unfortunately for Arnie.
Also, it's really hard to imagine Mrs. Arnold enthusiastically stumping for the votes of California lefties on behalf of her husband's *Republican* candidacy...horror of horrors!
Arnie is certainly the antithesis of GD, though. He'd certainly be a dogged task-master and an inspiration to many.
