Can Bruce or someone settle this? Are the Monte SS and TR D5 convertors the same?

D5 is a D5

A D5 is a D5 no matter where it comes from. If it has been rebuilt then it could be anything, as far as stall goes.

Senior moment? Bruce answered your same question in May.

D5's if still stock are the same, I believe some had heavier duty rectangular mounting lugs. The Monte SS are rated at 1900-2000 and I think the GN's are 2100-2300 due higher torque. Hey Clay what's a Senior moment?

stall speed is a function of torque.behind their pissant 305 it's 1800.behind a stock gn it's 2400.and so on and so forth.

Thank you gentlemen for setting that one straight.
Some people still dont under stand that stall speed is a function of many variables mainly vehicle weight and torque.

HOTOGO

"Hey Clay what's a Senior moment?"

Its Bruce forgeting to mail the installation instructions and such.

If you don't know yet just wait, you will.

How come we always find out about Senior moments a tick too late?

Like he said.... "If you don't know..... You will........."

ROFLMAO!

The stock D5 in my son's '85 MCSS stalls at 2200 with a built 385" stroker (Comp XR276 eXtreme Roller), I'd guess it's a little low on torque at that particular RPM range...

Well, we shall find out soon since I will have the Monte with the Buick 6 running really soon. I will let you guys know.
