Recently, Jay Carter payed a visit to us Canucks... and was singing the many praises of the quality of our gasoline.

My question is:
Just how far can a full weight TR push the Ultra 94 we have up here?

Currently I am sitting at 16psi on A JC94 Chip for Blue Tops, I am gonna tweak her to drive around on 17psi... but, I have a funny feeling that 18-19psi is possible.

Any thoughts?

I have always heard that we have better gas than in the US. I don't know if this is actually true or if it is an old wives tale but that has always been my understanding.

How much timing is in his chip? I would think that around 20* timing you should be able to get 18 psi.

On my old combo with TA49/MSD 50's/V4 etc I was able to get 19-19.5 psi with a Joe Lubrant 20* street chip and Chevron 94. I used to verify this with Turbo Link and the boost sensing harness.

I haven't really tried to see how high I could go with my current combo. At 17 psi my car is tough to keep the tires from going up in smoke as it is so 19 psi would be silly. :)

...I'd ask. But I think that he is getting really sick of trivial little ?s. LOL. (I am J/K)

...Yeah, that sounds fair. I had a 21psi "flare" in second gear when I was tuning my FP down... that was spooky, but the car seem to eat it up. I am being VERY careful with what I am doing... as I don't have a full-time scan tool on the car. I am still working on a laptop to run the TurboLink & BST-001.

...Yeah, I am quite confident that 18psi should be very safe with the Ultra94, and a splash of Toulene ;)

Pay a little now, or a lot later!

r u kidding us? Its never enough for me :D

Years back when Sunoco 94 was loaded with MTBE it was champ.
They scrapped the MTBE years ago in favor of Ethanol.
Since then I have not been able to run as much boost on pump gas. We use to buy barrels of MTBE from a local chemical house that bottled the octane booster for Canadian Tire. It was straight MTBE in a little red bottle. We can not get MTBE anymore as it got a bad rap due its super high volatility and a couple explosions in some US refineries years ago. (Ocelot Industries) If you have ever been within 10 feet of the Mark series unleaded race fuels up here you will know what MTBE smells like. On the list of ‘what to add to my gasoline cocktail?’ MTBE stands number one above Xylene then Toluene.

We generally buy Xylene up here in drums and split it amongst friends but I find it makes the engine run hotter. The throttle response is a little less snappy and it tends to throw the wide band O2 out a bit for some reason. MTBE does this too because it releases oxygen when it burns but the throttle response was great and 18 lbs of boost was not a problem with the right percentage in the tank.

Like I said this was several years ago. The MTBE is very toxic and some were getting sick from the tank fumes while filling their cars. It attacks the rubber fuel lines and injector O-rings and many had to replace their injectors in several make autos. (Acura for one) The 100 oct unleaded has no MTBE in it or ethanol just pure power.... Gene

I don't see how the 100 octane unleaded addresses the original question in this thread. “Just how far can a full weight TR push the Ultra 94 we have up here?” The 100 octane is not available to my knowledge at any gas pump here in Canada that I know of... well at least in the golden horseshoe area. FYI Ethanol is no better for rubber than MTBE. Since MTBE has not been used for many years now it has given the auto manufactures time to alter fuel systems to be more resistant to these types of additives. Now we see plastic fuel tanks, fittings and lines. Rubber, Neoprene and Buna are being replaced with Nylon, Teflon and Viton to name a few.
