Car antenna stuck in the up position!

Is there a way that I can get my car antenna down. I would like to have the car cover on it completely. I know the cable inside the motor is broke I have a replacement motor I'm gonna be swapping it with. I've tried to plug the connector back in and push down on the antenna but does not want to budge. Any tips or tricks don't want to break it since I have a spare cable for it and would like to fix it eventually. FYI I have a stock radio for the car.

Once the cable breaks there is no way of getting it down.
