My Car's Too Loud...

Hi guys,

Today I tried to start up the ol' vega. I pulled all the sparkplugs out and cranked it over for about 30 seconds (to get oil pressure and fuel). When I got out of the car, I noticed gas all over the place. I took the carb hat off and the gas was just overflowing out of the center of the carb.

I'm a layman when it comes to carbs, but I think this is BAD!!

I took the carb off, and there was a huge puddle of gas in the plenum.

Any ideas?

Ben

Float not floating. Or maybe the float needle has fallen out of the seat.

I also saw something like this a long time ago on a '69 Dart. The fuel pump was oversize and building up way too much pressure. Fill the carb to overflow whenever it was turned off.

Yep, I agree, the float is stuck open, debris preventing from closing. Or the float sunk.

Thanks for the replies,

My autoshop teacher said that it was the float too. I'm gonna pick up a float kit from work tommorrow, and go from there.

I'll keep everyone posted...

Thanks again,

Ben

Well, the float was sunk. I replaced it, and no more gas leaks!! Now if I could just find out why it's not getting any spark...

Thanks again,

Ben
