I'm sure somebodys probably asked this before:D Anybody buy the Hooker cat back exhaust for their Buick out of Summit Racing??? It looks the same as the one Kirbans sell only alot cheaper!!!!! $289.00 vs. $375.00!!!!! It says for Grand National and Monte Carlo SS... Do you have to modify anything to make it fit???????

Thanks

I got the hooker kit a couple of months ago. Everyone said it would fit like a glove NOT!! After struggling with it for about a hour I gave up & took it to a exhaust shop!! The tail pipes and Y pipe had to be cut about 3", one of the pipes of the Y pipe just after flange for the converter had to be cut & spread apart some
more so the pass. side muffler wouldn't hit the driveshaft.
Other than that it's a great kit. So if someone tells ya you can do it in your driveway on a Sat. afternoon don't be dissapointed if you need a little help from a muffler shop.
And to let ya all know I've been a mechanic for going on 23 years so i'm not clueless when it comes to cars.
The only thing our shop does not do is exhaust work & I'm not real handy with a welder.
I hope if you buy the hooker kit it fits better than mine did.
Good Luck!

whatever you get it will be a huge improvement over stock. i got a flowmaster hoping to swap it for a 3" ss that my dads car has (the one thats for sale) turnd out it had a flowmaster too and i didn't like the bends, figured i'd hold off for a 3" dual like i REALLY want.

anyways, flowmasters are NOT the thing to use on these cars, much less the cross flow like stock. any baffled mufflers are bad. but i noticed a huge imporvement, not only in spool up but also all out power, it really pulls harder. a friend who rarely rides in my car noticed it, so i'd have to say anythign is better than stock. can't wait to get a 3" with a magnaflow or something!

I bought the Hooker Cat back setup from Poston, installed it on the rack at my shop, and it fit like a glove! I guess the other fellow had Monday or Friday kit...

Ram is clueless. Mine fits fine! - Just foolin' 'round Ram :)

I got the Hooker Super Comp system and it did not fit great; fit OK, but not great. Seven years later and the leaks make it sound very radical.

I am overall very pleased with the exhaust, although I now wish I had takin' my friend's advice. If you are gonna keep the car, go with the SS exhaust.

Mine went in without any problems. I backed the gn up on ramps and installed the hooker exhaust in a couple of hours and then went to a muffler shop and had it welded. Cost me like $40.

my guess is that you may have a bent frame causing a 3" modification. Its hard to believe that everyone else(including me) has the Hooker fitting perfect with any cutting and you have to do this.. hmmmmm
Id check into this if I were you..
