These cooler temps reminded me of something that happened about a year ago that I thought that I would share. One morning I got up early to test a turbo that I had installed the night before.
There is this place I like to go that has a long flat surface with no place for cars to enter the road and no place for the police to hide. You can run the car out to the top of third no problem. You just do not want to delay slowing down to long because the road takes a quick turn to the left. To continue straight would be to go into the woods at the end of the turn. Before you get to the staight away there is a hill that you go up
I could not wait! The car just felt so much faster. As I get to the top of the hill I stopped the car so that I could start from a stand still. I roll into the throttle and the car starts to spit and sputter. I start over. The same thing only it started to pop through the intake. Then the car just dies.
I get the car off to the side of the road call the wife, and then I call a tow truck. We get the car off loaded at the house and the driver says that my brake lights are on. I press the peddle and they stay on,,, that's funny. I place my foot under the peddle and lift up,,,,,,,, the brake lights go out. Easy fix I think to myself. As I take my foot from under the brake peddle the peddle falls to the floor.
The cotter (spelling?) Key that kept the brake booster arm connect to the brake peddle broke. It appeared that the factory never place a washer between the key and the arm. Over time the arm cause the key to fail.
Heres the best part. I fix the brakes and the car still will not run without popping and spitting. It turns out that a rocker shaft broke. I purchased new HD shafts from TA and some RJC shaft supports and the car has run great. There are no more back road high speed runs for me. I think someone was trying to say something. As a note the old rocker shafts had been running on the car for over two years.
