What can I use to clean these types of filters besides the stuff that K&N sells? I'm assuming it's just a light detergent. Will Fantastik work?

Just being cheap - don't feel like paying for something I may already have in the house.

Put it in the shower up close to the head and spray the hottest water through it you can stand. Then come back with a medium soft scrub brush and some Simple Green/Greased Lightning and scrub it lengthwise firmly but gently. Then let drip dry for a few days and re-oil.

John - is it possible to take a hair dryer to these things to speed the drying time?

Simple Green I have. I shall use that.

Good stuff - thanks for the input.

If I stand mine on end out in the sun, it is dry in less than an hour, but I live in AZ.

I am not saying this is a good idea, but I have done it before under emergency conditions. I fill the kitchen sink with about 8" of very hot water, with a lot of liquid dish soap added while filling the water. I just sort of bang it on the bottom of the sink and rotate it, then run very hot water from the inside to the outside to rinse it, & air dry.
I was afraid of scrubbing it for fear that it would open up some of the pores unintentionally.
Good Luck
