Can anyone tell me how to clean the insides of a turbo after an engine breakdown? I'm ready to start putting everything back together and don't want pieces of my cam bearings going through my engine. :) TIA

After I had rod bearings go thru my motor I called John Craig and had him send me a turbo rebuild kit. I did not want to chance the turbo taking a dump after just a cleaning. It was only $70 at the time then I sent it to him for balancing for a few bucks more. I was spending $$$ on the new motor anyways what is a few more bucks knowing the turbo is clean and rebuilt, piece of mind for me. Here is John's site, he is a Great guy too!! www.limitengineering.com

I also sent my radiator here, www.oilcoolers.com I had them clean the factory oil cooler to faa specs. The oil cooler inside was Pristine when it came back. The did a great job on the cleaning and repainted the radiator with the correct paint, the thin stuff.

HTH,

Well, I am not against spending the money but this turbo has about 800 miles on it. It doesn't have any play or damage that I can see/feel. I thought if someone gave me a simple plan I could follow it and clean it all up.

In that case you can disassemble it and clean it with a solvent then reassemble. I am not sure if you would need to replace the impeller nut. Some say you anyways need to replace with a new one after removing. I am Not sure though, so I would call John and ask. I would also lube it up during reassembly.

I've read about hooking up a can of 'Trans Cooler Kleen" to the oil fitting on the turbo and cleaning it that way . sounds like it may work and maybe worth a try :) . I would rest the oil return of the turbo on a glass or clear plastic jar and see if any thing of interest comes out . and give the turbo a few spins while doing it .
