It is an automatic with A/C, P/B and P/S.
What my problem is it will not pass smog. The check engine light came on but would not read codes. I had bought another computer and while my son was installing this he tracked down a broken wire in the harness for the computer. He fixed this but was unable to install a new pin and had to use the old one. The computer now read a code 42. My son didn't have any idea where to go on this so I took my car to a shop. After giving my car a once over the Master Mechanic corrected the dwell on my carborator by 15 degrees (yes the car was burning rich on failed smog as well as check engine light on). Saw the chart that shows what to do for a code 42 but said it was the hook-up for the computer that was the problem. My son and I finally found the pin I needed and he redid the hook-up but it still reads
code 42. Now I have the chart that tells the steps on checking for the trouble code 42 for my car and the fact that the chart states it is a BYPASS OR EST PROBLEM. My son states he doesn't understand the checking procedure ie: 1st step with engine at fast idle note timing, ground test terminal 6 and note timing it should change. He doesn't know where terminal 6 is or for a matter of fact where any of the terminals are located that they are talking about. I think they are talking about a HEI Distribator but not quite sure where the Bypass is or exactly what it is. Can anyone help me with diagrams, explinations or ? I sure would like to get my car back on the road. Any and all help would be appriciated.
