hello,
i have a simple question about the module change from the 84 to the 87 type. can you still use the coil from the 84 car with the module from the 87. i haven't seen an answer anywhere on this. the reason i ask is i already have the module and wiring but don't have a coil yet and i would like to see if this helps my situation with this car.
thanks.

Im not totally sure, but Im guessing if you really had to you could, the only problem you would have is that the 84 coil is way bigger than the 86/87 module base is so it wouldnt sit on there right. Now most auto parts stores sell an adapter to use an 86/87 coil on the 84/85 module so maybe you could get one of those and flip it upside down and try that for the mounting. If I were you though I would just go buy a coil from gyrhead and sons as I think they were only like $50 for them last I saw, and they are real AC Delco units.

thanks for the reply. i may wait until i get a coil since they are pretty cheap, but this car has been giving me a fit with an intermittent no start problem. i have narrowed it to the area of the module/fuel inj. wiring as i can move these wires around and it will usually start.
thanks again,d.g.

ive done this switch, and no you cannot use the 84 coil with the 87 module. Sorry.
