Ok, I asked this in another post but I thougt I'de put up one just dedicated to these 2 things since the other post has a lot of questions lol. I measured the ohm's across the towers and came up with 14.7, 15, and 14.8. These are higher then recommended on gnttype.org so I was wondering if this meant my coil was bad. Another thing I'm concerned about is my TPS. It was reading .43@ idle and 4.0 at WOT. I bummped it up to .46@idle and WOT is still only 4.3. Do I need a new tps also? Thanks guys!

Hi,
All the tower resistances are very close. I can't remember the spec, but isn't it around 12K optimum?I'll bet the coil is ok, as those readings are supposed to be at an ideal temp, and age must be taken into account.Do all six have a bright blue and nasty spark? Your TPS voltage at WOT shouldn't change much with only a .03 V change at idle. Look for a nice linear increase as the throttle angle changes, no spikes.A dvom really can't show any problems on this sensor unless you have a bad failure.Same for scanner data, on these slow(200baud?) ecms.Try a graphing multimeter or scope to see the fast, sneaky ones. Are you having problems? If so, please list them. Good luck!

No real problems, just trying to get the car optimum before I start to tune. Is 4.3 too low for WOT???

Hi,
A WOT reading of 4.3V has got to get the right idea to the ECM, so don't sweat it! By the way, With myTV cable adjustment setting, I never get over 3.9V. I believe I'm getting full enrichment at that setting.

I belief the ECM must see 4.5V (depending on the chip) to go into full enrichment mode. Try lifting the TPS and then install/re-setting it. This will in essence change the "leverage" of the TPS and you should be able to get 4.5V+. If that does not work, try filing the mounting holes in the TPS.

I can get 4.5 volts by simply just turning it but when I do that the idle ones jump up to around 5 which from what I understand is too high and the car doesn't think it's idling

The easiest (did I say easy ;) ) way to get the WOT and Idle settings "in" is to set the WOT voltage first. This is easiest accomplished by loosening both screws enough to allow TPS movement. Then pulling to TPS to it's most forward position (this is max WOT). Try for 4.5 or more (4.8 being ideal).
Then fasten one screw down sorta snug (tight enought to allow the switch to rotate on its axis, but not loose enough to allow any fore/aft movement).
Then gently move the nose of the TPS up or down to get your desired idle voltage (.40-.42). then tighten both screws. hopefully nothing changes too drastically during the tightening process.

BTW, the coil resistance measurements you read are WAY too high.

No. Coil is fine. Alot of factors can affect resistance, temperature, etc. When was the last time your ohmmeter was calibrated ??

Well actually I tested it again and got 13.0-13.1 on all of them. I never got my meter calibrated...I paid $3.99 for it at harbor freight on sale and it's even digital :D But it's pretty accurate as everything else I ever tested it with (and tested it against some brand name ones at a local garage to see if it's good) came up good. And other news is that I got my TPS set to .44/4.6 so I'm glad about that. Thanks guys!

Ok, maybe my dvom is off. My scanmaster is reading .42@idle and 4.5@WOT. Whereas my meter is reading .44/4.6? Are the scanmasters accurate with this? I'll also post this in the scan too forum.

Your numbers all sound fine.
First off- you have to do the IAC reset procedure first. If your IAC is all out of adjustment, and you have to open the idle stop screw way out to get it to idle right, you will lose some of your TPS range.
Try to get your TPS down to .42 on the scanmaster, with the engine idling. Mine always reads a little higher at idle, than when its shut off. My WOT voltage is only like 4.2.
While the engine is idling, pull a plug wire off one of the front towers. Does the spark jump all the way to the coil pack mounting screws? Given your numbers are so close, Im sure theyre ok.
