Dave here again....... I have a quick question. I have been reading all the info/sites I can find on 85 GN's. I have an upgraded 87 coil. I understand how they are hooked up...1+4, 2+5, 3+6. They say it doesn't matter if they are swapped. 153in front or back of coil, I know the coil "towers" are tied together. I cant understand how you can swap these and it still works????? I thought the coils had to fire in a certain order......if you change wires from front to back, aren't you changing the order the cylinders are firing?????? I will hook mine up so the numbers match on the coil pack....... Thanks, Dave

Well, the system on our buicks is called a "waste spark system". Each coil fires both plugs at the same time, but the way the firing order is, one of the cylinders will be on the exhaust stroke, and the other will be just about to fire on the power stroke. Since it takes very little voltage to jump the plug gap on the cylinder that is on the exhaust stroke, most of the electricity gets sent to the plug that actually needs it and very little gets "wasted" on the exhausting cylinder. So no you don't change the firing order, because they always fire the pairs of plugs at the same time. HTH

Thanks for the explanation..... That is the first time I've heard that. I Think that makes sense, thats why it doesn't matter front or back of coil.....as long as you keep 1+4, 2+5, 3+6 together??? Thanks again, Dave
