I just got my 86 rebuilt and cant "jump" on it because they can't tune it since the computer was replaced with a 98 Accel Gen 6. They don't have the software and are suggesting that I replace it with either a new computer around $2000 or with an original 86-87 computer. I have checked with local auto parts stores and can get a new or rebuilt computer for way less then that. Are there any disadvantages to getting one from a national auto parts chain? Does anyone have software for the 98 Accel Gen 6? Any help with would help. Thanks in advance.

Hit the salvage yard or check the for sale ads on this board. ECMs are plentiful. Chips are good enough now that unless you are an all out racer you'll be fine with the stock ECM. Here are donor cars though they are harder to find these days due to age:
1986 Buick 6-231
1986 Century 6-231
1989 Firebird 6-231
1986 Olds 6-231
1986-87 Regal 6-231 with turbo
