ive noticed alot of oil in the uppipe latley. i dont know where it is coming from. i raced a mustang the other day and there was a huge cloud of smoke the whole time we raced. i still beat him though:) . i felt it knock some in wot so i let off to 3/4 throttle. sm said 11 degrees of knock which i didnt see till after the race was over. im guessing its burning a lot of oil. is there anything i can check to see where it is coming from.
the turbo has no shaft play at the maf side. i havnt checked the other side though. i see a little bit of oil on the inlet bell but its not much at all. turbo has 125,000 on it and has never been pushed hard. runs about 14-17 psi. any help would be appreciated. id rather buy a new turbo than an engine rebuild. i dont race it much, just when a mustang pulls up next to me.:D

If there's oil in the bell, then it surely sounds as though the turbo seal is leaking. I would go ahead & let John Craig rebuild it for you. It's going to need it sooner or later, & the more oil that gets in your manifold the worse your knock problem will get. HTH

It would also be a good idea to check your intercooler for oil as well. A good flushing wouldn't hurt.:)

ive recently cleaned the intercooler. does john craig have a site? whats a typical rebuild price? thanks

John Craig is a great guy. I highly doubt you will find a better turbo specialist anywhere. I would think a complete rebuild would run in the $250-$300 range? New seals & such may be half of that. I would give him a call & work something out. Good luck.:)
