Cant get this thing to work right. I have everything connected and the car is on and it keeps telling me that the DS hardware cannot be found? Anyone know how to fix this?

The DS had a problem where if the connector on the ECM was pushed on too far it did not work. Try to pull the connector off a bit and see if that helps.

I already messed with that a bit but I'll try again. Any other ideas if that doesn't do it?

Well, just on the computer end. I was never able to get it to work in windoze xp, I had to boot a dos disk or have a laptop running 98 or (god forbid) me edition...

GREAT, the laptop has XP maybe that's the deal...anybody know how to get this to work with XP. is the parallel port address in the DS main menu suppose to say N/A??

It says NA because it doesn't work in XP. XP handles ports differently when it runs a program in compatibility mode (which is how it has to run DS because it's so old). I have never got nor seen anyone get this working in XP, and I'm a Network Administrator, so believe me, I've tried everything that I know of...

Anyone else ever see this work in XP?

Yeah it's definately XP, I cant believe I just had to do this but I wanted to be sure. I had an old desk top with ME on it so I dragged everything out to the garage and hooked it up, Direct Scan ran fine with it LOL. So yeah I guess I'm selling this unless someone can tell me how I can get XP to run it

The only way is to have a floppy or some other bootable drive to run DOS other than the XP hard drive. You gotta be able to boot to DOS. Or buy an older cheaper laptop with WIN98 on it, that's the best bet.

Got it to work correctly, just need to create a DOS boot disk and be sure that the A: drive is before the C: drive on your boot order and it worked fine.

Sorry to hijack.... but if anyone is interested... and has a newer laptop with XP... and you have your CD for XP.... I can format it and re-load Win 98 and XP... and create a "dual boot".... I did it for my Dell laptop. Works fine.... it asks me when it boots up if I want to boot Win98 or Win XP. DirectScan works just fine....on 98.

Takes a few hours to format the HD and re-load.... If anyone is interested... PM me... I'd do it for a price if someone wanted to have both.... or didn't want to mess with 2 laptops.

I did get it to work off a bootable disc but your record time is limited to the space available on the floppy:frown: I now run it off a laptop with Windows '98. Learned that one the hard way...
