Direct Scan questions

[Pace 1989]

Hooked up directscan. Gave a "hardware not recognized" prob.
Tried another laptop, and it gave data, weird data (kept changing with the engine off and key on).
Someone told me that the Lpt1 port could be set up to send and not receive.

1) How do I change the Lpt1 port to receive data also?

2) Why would the data be changing (tps volts, etc) with the key on and engine off and how do I fix that?

I'm not real computer literate so any help is appreciated.

Are you booting the computer into DOS? DS is not windows friendly...boot disk files available, do a little searchie.
