Is this possible to do? I'm getting Directscan but want to be able to customize some sort of audible alarm if KR gets to an unsafe #. I've heard of people just buying a seperate knock gauge but a guy I talked to complained about it lighting up at low knock so he couldn't tell the actual kr #'s. I would rather customize directscan to flash red or set off an alarm that lets me know when I am at an unsafe kr level. Thanks for any help.

IMHO I like a knock gauge to go along with DS as you still have it for knock info when the laptop isn't in the car. And while the gauge may not be able to give you knock readings in degrees its also not tied to the aldl port so it can give you instant knock info, not something on a 1.25 sec delay from the port. Its always better to be able to see if your having dangerous knock rather than reviewing it later in the log.
DS doesn't have any audible or screen warnings of knock except in the case where you have it start logging if knock is encountered but I believe the only screen related change you'd see for this is the distance bar starting to increment so nothing you'd notice unless you really kept your eye on it or if you had it in scope mode and brought up the knock graph to watch but you need to keep your eyes on the road not the laptop.
anyway, my 2 cents.

caspers sells an audible knock sensor , goes off at about 4 degrees retard , and easy to install
i have the Scanmaster (too slow even with fast update) and DS (not very readable during a run) boost gauge and af nmeter , you should be watching where your going (and the guy in the other lane too) and maybe if your lucky you get the chance to glance at the boost and see the o2s are in safe range

every turbo should have one
have the led knock gauge in the 86 dash (along with SM and DS ,tach and two boost gauges )and dont think even the red lights would get my attention during a run.
