When I want to put in race gas, I turn the pump on and drain what I can through the fuel rail. I know that this leaves about 2 gallons left in the tank. Its not that much, but its enough to delute 8 gallons of expensive C-16.

If I remove the gas tank (which I need to do anyway to put in my Double Pumper), can I have someone weld a drain valve in the tank? This would get all the gas out, and not just some. Anyone using this type of procedure? Thanks in advance.

Please!! Unless I miss read this and you have a new gas tank,

Don't weld it........ Explosion gas welding......

Maybe a separate tank in trunk would help???

Well anyway had to stop this..........HTH'ED

Ok, from what I see here, you have a potential problem. Weld and Gas Tank!!!

If you take your tank off and leave it sitting for long enoug to get ALL of the vapors out, you then only need to find some one who can weld a gas tank. I have never done this nor heard of it but I know when I changed my tank, I had to leave the old one sitting for about a week to get all the vapor out. There was still some gas in the bottom that I couldn't get out and I was taking it to the dump where they incinerate. BE CAREFUL.

Didnt mean to scare you guys!

A friend of mine welds sumps on stock tanks and does a VERY nice job (he has done SEVERAL used tanks, cleans them out with something, then welds). I of course would not try and do something like this myself.

Assuming the tank is free of vapors (as if he was going to weld a sump to this tank for me), is this a good idea?

Thanks again.

I don't see a problem with it at all except unless you do a sump of some sort, you still won't get ALL the gas out of the tank. There would probably be a quart or so left maybe more. I doubt that would make a difference in 8 gallons of race gas.

Talk to him and see if he can figure out the best spot to put the drain in. Sometimes new stuff becomes the standard, other times, it fades into the wind.
