I just bought a chrome Up Pipe and forgot about having to drill it for the alky nozzle. I have a single stage SMC kit and wonder what is the best way to drill the pipe without damaging the chrome. What are the size bits I will need. Any help is appreciated.

If you are worried about the chrome flaking off when you drill it, just mark the area (small circle) you are going to place the nozzle and grind the chrome off first, that will prevent the drill bit from getting under the chrome and being able to pull it up.

Can't help you with what sizes you need since I don't know what size your nozzle is, just measure the threads.

Size is a little under 3/8. I use a unibit and take my time. You will find that if you get it rite, you can pretty much cut threads with the nozzle.

Install or mock up the new pipe as it should be in place if you want the nozzle to be parallel with the hood line nice and flat when installed.

Won't affect performance but should look nicer.

Mark the location with the chrome pipe in place, makes more sense to do also when you install 2 nozzles side to side or they won't be in line and horizontally located.

I just installed my SMC kit (VERY satisfied;)), and used a 3/8" bit to drill the hole in the up pipe. The jet SMC included was a very tight fit, but this is a good thing because leaks = your enemy. Keep in mind that you will be applying a sealant, JB Quik in SMC's case, so that will cover up any blemishes around the hole.

Good luck - Josh

I dont use JB Weld, I use bonded sealing washers one on the inside and one on the outside. The JB Weld is hideous on a pretty engine.

Next best is a welded bung, but that requires work.

What is a bonded sealing washer and where do you get them? Definately sounds better than JB weld.
