hey fellow buick lovers just got my new dutt big neck. no instuctions came with it though. couple of things i would like to be certain of before i start this.does the inside of the neck need to be smoothed out and polished? how much of the intercooler do i cut off? what type of welding needs to be done? thanks for the help.

You can smooth out the inside if you want, but it won't get you much. The shape and size of the neck is where the gains are.

To position it, I laid the intercooler out on a piece of cardboard, marked the location and center of the current neck, then put the dutt neck in the same place, and marked the cardboard, then transferred the marks to the intercooler.

Stuff a rag in it. Cut the neck off with a hacksaw. Fit it so it matches your cardboard template. Bevel the edge around the edge of neck and intercooler. Clean out all of the aluminum chips and have an aluminum welder weld it (usually TIG)

I made a plywood jig that held the intercooler and used a hole saw to make a pocket for the inlet. That way I could position the dutt neck in the same location. Cut the old outlet off touch long so you can grind it in without taking too much off. Next v groove the joint for the weld. Luckily there's a shop near by the welds aluminum so I gave him the jig to use. Came out perfect.
