What do you guys think of making my 86 El Camino a tow vehicle for my Buick? I've had this car for a while, and kinda want to keep it around. It would only tow the car about once a month. Other than that, it would be used for truck stuff.
Right now it has a 350 crate motor with a 600 holley carb, edlebrock intake, headers, exhaust, TH350, stock rear and suspension.
I know it will need some work to be able to tow ~4500 lbs. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking of a tourqier cam, 200r4 trans with cooler (I have an extra laying around), and beef up the rear suspension and brakes all around, steeper gear in rearend.
What problems am I going to run into? Can I get a hitch rated high enough for it? What can I do with the rear suspension to handle it? Will the frame handle it?
And suggestions will help, thanks!
