I recently purchased a TTA and plan on doing a full tune up.
The car is bone stock with 73k miles..

I would like to know what you all recommend I use for Engine oil (Synthetic, non-syn, 20w-50, mobile1, etc) based on my TTA's wear and milage?

I hear the car takes 5.5qt's of engine oil?

Any specific tranny fluid I should use?
I only found Dexron III at local auto parts (dipstick says use Dexron II), is this ok?

How many Qt's of fluid does the stock tranny hold exactly?

Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

In 1989 they didnt have Dexron 3. Dexron 3 is a development of the Dexron 2. So yes you shall go with dexron 3. How much you need to fill it up with cant I answer. Sorry.

I use cheap oil and change it frequent. 10w30 last time.

Synthetic seems to find places to leak more than conventional.

Ditto on th etranny fluid. It takes like 6 quarts.

If you know what the previous owner used for oil use the same thing, mixing oils is not a wise thing. If you don't know what and can't find out what is in it, then do like Razor suggested and use a conventional mineral oil. I prefer Havoline 30 weight.

synthetic is recommended for turbo motors because of the heat produced. even your owners manual from '89 recommends syth oil.

and it is safe to mix modern conventional and syth oils nowadays. so it doesn't matter what the previous owner had in there.

imo - swap it out and get synth in there.

ps - i don't do oil debates anymore so if anyone wants to do more research - there is PLENTY of reading out there for you to do about motor oil and filters. such as http://bobistheoilguy.com/ http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi
