I thought this was an important topic to re-post after the server loss of data...

With the prevalence of direct injected engines today, the engine oil industry is reformulating for these engines.

In May 2020, the new API SP and ILSAC GF-6A and GF-5B represent significant changes from the previous specifications.

check out the attached pdf from the current issue of engine professional magazine.

in the lost thread, some noted the 0W-16 oils are out there. seems everything will be so much more application specific now. would not want to mistakely grab a jug of 0W-xx off the shelf in the garage for the Buick.

Yes things are changing again. I learned first hand these light weight oil and extended drain intervals are not a good idea. I have gone back to 3 months or 3000 miles. We have known this and it has not changed. The oil monitor and 5000 mile or more intervals do not work for longevity. I also go to a thicker oil for protection, screw the fuel mileage they claim.
