I know some of you tweakers on here must do it as close to factory as possible.

Especially if you're doing the car show thing. However, if you don't want to remove fenders, cuss etc. and just want to get the antenna hooked to the radio, there is a way to convert to fixed mast without touching a bolt.
1. Remove antenna nut - I went by and paid a guy at the body shop $10 to loosen it so I wouldn't have to order the whole antenna fitting kit.
2. Buy replacement antenna at local parts store, you must get the one that has he anchor assembly that will drop through the antenna hole from the top. I got the one with the two swivel arms that I could fit through the hole.
3. Paint antenna black
4. Remove nut from the original power antenna and push power antenna assembly to the side & snake in new antenna wire through the hole and out the opening of the fender that comes out in the door jamb area at the top. I snaked some stiff weed eater line through first and then taped the antenna wire to it. It made it much easier.
5. You can now drop in the new antenna and tighten the assembly up.
6. Run the antenna wire underneath the door jamb trim and plug it into the back of the radio.
After your done, you can only see the antenna wire running across the door jamb if you are looking for it. I just wanted to get some tunes in my car. I'll re-route it later if I decide I want to partially removed fenders and stuff or have it off for another reason.
