"Flare"....Need a definition

I see the term "flare" describing how a tranny is shifting.

Could somebody make me smart on this. I think I have a good idea what you're talking about, but, not sure

Instead of the RPM's immediately dropping on the shift, they will rise a few hundered (trans slipping), and then go down once it is in the next gear.

Thanks, that is what I thought.

My 137,000 mile LHS does that occasionally. I guess its because of a worn shift servo?

I appreciate your help on this
