A billet crank will be completely machined (including all the rod throws and counterweights) where a forged crank will be machined on all the journals but will be rough on the rod throws and sides of the counterweights.

This is true for most cranks; however, complete finishing on high quality($$$) forged cranks is common.

Ditto. I had thought mine was a billet until Neal pointed out the part number forged into the rear counterweight. All surfaces had been machined.
