Free mods

ok I know this had to have been talked about for awhile or many times but I think I might have misssed it

can anyone list the free mods for our cars or direct me to a detailed website with them on it?

I have the TB coolant lines blocked
adj wastegate
the switches for TCC and Fan and such
IAC and TPS adjusted
Adj Fpr

are there more?

and I am not talking about spring cleaning here
I am talking about after spring cleaning

I am short on cash but have lots of time, so I figured I would get them done


mods

Big Mouth intake
RJC powerplate
BIg neck intercooler
hooker exhaust
THDP and test pipe
adj FPR
gauges
hotwires
340 walbro
chips etc

Cheap Mods:
Right side airbag can help at the track. Put in 20 psi to start.
All long brake shoes in back. helps hold boost.
Line lock. At $100 not quite cheap, but keeps rear brakes from overheating.


Weight reduction:
Remove the sound deadener under the back seat (16 lbs)
If You have steel bumper brackets, cut away most of the metal (saves 40+ lbs - front and back)
Remove the front sway bar (saves 23 lbs)
LT1 starter (save 9 lbs)


At the track, some Free mods are:
Spray the intercooler with water in the pits. A cold intercooler is a happy intercooler.
Loosen and remove the left side sway bar endlink at the track.
Put 40 psi in the front tires

I believe that most of them are listed on the GNTTYPE.org site under "tech" then "recipes"... been a while since I've been there, though. "FREE" is a relative term... I have done a LOT to my cars that was "free", but I have an entire industrial machine shop at my disposal!

Remove 1(ONE!!!)maf screen, and the intercooler scoop screen. That is if you haven't already.

Is it necessary to remove just one side? I've been removing both. Also, would that be the driver's or passenger's side?

Rear seat braces, 1/2in galvanized or black pipe 2 pieces 25in long 2 pieces 26in long. Flatten 1 1/2in on each end, couple of 3/8in x1 1/2in bolts. You use one of each length on each side, helps keep T tops from rattelin. Tarey D.

ok whats the advantage to removing a MAF screen

which do I remove the one closer to the filter or the opposite?
also what kind of advantage can I look for?

If you want to use your current cat for smog test, get a stock cat of the Parts Wanted section and gut it. I got one for $40 including shipping.

More airflow, of course I removed the outside one(first one I saw when I removed the air filter). I don't know if it really matters which one.

If you remove both, the bar can rotate down and bang into stuff uncontrolled.

The correct AC MAF has two screens in parallel between the filter and the sensor. Removing the first screen improves airflow.

Some aftermarket MAF's have a screen before the sensor and after the sensor. If you have one of those, remove the screen after the sensor... or better, yet, junk it and buy a LT1 sensor with a translator.

You need a SERIOUS Blow Torch to even think about cutting away this HEAVY GUAGE Metal (more like IRON)!
