Personally, I prefer to have the gauge mounted inside the car. If you're sure you want it mounted on the hood, read no further.

I've used both a mechanical and electronic FP gauges (both Autometer's). Both are very accurate and all told both are about the same price. With the mechanical one, you need to get a separate isolator (which Autometer sells). The isolator came "pre-bled" and once installed I haven't had to mess with it. The electronic one comes in "kit" form with everything you need. The electronic one is easier to install because you're running wire, not braided steel line, to wherever the gauge goes. The Autometer electronic gauge has a "black box" that you need to find space for under the dash.

i'm also using the autometer "black box" electronic and it works great.it's full sweep(unlike earlier electronic that sucked)and it's accurate and sensitive.they are a bit pricy though(~$180).

guage

I mounted mine inside the hood on the fender to look at while I adjust

the autometer elec fuel pressure gauge sells for $229 (the elec sender takes the big chunk on the co$t) on summit. If you go to Ron's...they're a bit pricey so sign up for ther preferred customer's account. But they usually sell things at similar prices to summit if you're an member. I'm sure if they have it on hand, but you can "special order" it. Or you can contact Geoff87 for his mechanical gauge and see if he will sell one of his to you because he was using a Mech gauge and switched to elec. but he may already be using it on one of his hot-airs.

I've got a Fuel Pressure gauge that Lee Thompson sold me. Its mounted "UNDER" the rear edge of the hood but the gauge is external so you are looking right at it. It does not touch your hood's paint or the trim at the rear edge. Its got a stainless line and a special 84/85 fuel rail that has an AN fitting to hook the gauge to. This, IMO, is the only way to go as you can see what your fuel pressure is at all times. Knowing what it is at idle doesn't tell you what it is on boost. An example, you set it at 35psi at idle but your pump is not able to keep up and at 18 lbs of boost you "should" have 53psi but instead its down at 45 and you getting knock. Better to know than guess. IMO, of course.

I'd sell the gauge, stainless line, and fuel rail for 150 plus shipping. The gauge really looks nice on the car also. Its got the "anodized" blue on the holder and the gauge is polished with a white face. Its liqued filled and 3", I think.

Anyone interested in it give me an email and I'll email you a picture of it.

Also got an 84/85 throttle body that has been opened up as far as possible (about 59.5) Lee told me how to do it and it really helps the hot air cars performance.

Regards,

Bob

you got anything constructive to add? which one are you running?

Im running a rail mount i got from kirbans for $30, i would not reccomend this gauge to anyone, its slow to respond, hard to read at an angle, and its really ugly too, its got a pink anodized holder and its really small and cheap looking.

i pointed that out incase someone wrote down the part number and ordered it from summit not noticing it only goes to 15psi. that would have sucked to spend $50 and wait a week and a half and get the wrong gauge now wouldnt it?
